The Christian Commission for Development in Bangladesh (CCDB) has launched a scholarship programme aimed at supporting university students in Bangladesh, focusing on climate change and environmental science.

The initiative was officially inaugurated today at a workshop held at the Holiday Inn Dhaka City Centre, said a press release.

Juliate Keya Malakar, executive director of CCDB, delivered the opening remarks, stressing the importance of solution-oriented research to drive development projects in climate-vulnerable communities. She emphasised the role of young researchers in creating practical solutions to address climate challenges.

The keynote address was given by Md Foezullah Talukder, head of CCDB's Climate Change Programme, who highlighted the need for strengthening climate knowledge and fostering research that connects academic findings with real-world application. Talukder explained that the scholarship aims to bridge the gap between theoretical research and practical solutions, empowering students to build climate resilience.

A panel discussion moderated by Dr Ahsan Uddin Ahmed, executive director of the Centre for Global Change, followed the keynote speech. Panelists included experts from leading institutions such as the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) and the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD).

The scholarship is targeted at Master's students in both public and private universities, with a focus on increasing their capacity to generate authentic, solution-oriented climate research. The programme aims to foster a new generation of climate leaders dedicated to sustainable development in Bangladesh.

Established in 1973, CCDB is a national NGO dedicated to empowering marginalised communities through sustainable development programs.
