IUB’s Team Bhumikompo becomes Champion in Disaster Management Exercise 4.0 at BUP
Team Bhumikompo from Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has become champion in the Poster Presentation segment of Disaster Management Exercise 4.0, organised by the BUP Disaster Management Forum (BUPDMF).
The national competition was attended by students from universities across Bangladesh to present innovative ideas on disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
The winning IUB team consisted of Farhan Sadeque from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Rukhsar Anwar and Limia Nawer from the Department of Environmental Science and Management. Their project, titled "IoT-Based Centralized Earthquake Response and Recovery Platform for Bangladesh," was developed under the theme "Innovative Earthquake Resilience: Smart Response and Recovery Mechanisms."
The proposed platform integrates a five-layer system combining IoT-based seismic data collection, AI-driven damage assessment, and blockchain-enabled transparency for resource coordination. By using sensors, smartphone-based reporting, and localized AI data centers, the system processes real-time information for display on a centralized dashboard accessible to emergency response teams and government agencies — allowing faster decision-making, automated alerts, and coordinated responses during earthquake emergencies.
Farhan led the technical architecture and dashboard design, while Rukhsar and Limia contributed environmental perspectives to ensure the system's relevance to Bangladesh's disaster management framework. The project exemplifies IUB's focus on interdisciplinary collaboration across engineering and environmental sciences.
The competition provided a national platform for students to present research-based innovations addressing real-world disaster management challenges. Team Bhumikompo's success highlights how IUB students are contributing to national resilience through research, innovation, and practical solutions for sustainable disaster preparedness.
