NSU welcomes freshers at Fall 2025 Orientation
North South University (NSU) has welcomed its new intake of students through the 'Orientation Fall 2025' programme, designed to introduce freshers to the university's culture and academic approach.
During the event, 94 students received scholarships at various levels, including full merit scholarships awarded to 35 students for their performance in the Bachelor's (Honours) admission test, says a press release.
Dr. Md. Mokhles Ur Rahman, senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, attended as chief guest. Special guest Aziz Al Kaiser, chairman of the NSU Board of Trustees, and Guest of Honour Benajir Ahmed, member of the Board of Trustees, were also present. The session was chaired by NSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury.
The programme began with recitations from the Holy Quran and the National Anthem, followed by a documentary screening. Registrar Dr. Ahmed Tazmeen delivered the welcome speech.
Deans from the four academic schools introduced their faculties: Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam (School of Humanities and Social Sciences), Professor Shazzad Hosain (School of Engineering and Physical Sciences), Professor Dipak Kumar Mitra (School of Health and Life Sciences), and Professor AKM Waresul Karim (School of Business and Economics).
Chief Guest Dr. Md. Mokhles Ur Rahman said, "In just thirty-one years, North South University (NSU) has achieved a truly extraordinary position in the landscape of higher education in Bangladesh. Within this short span of time, NSU has demonstrated that with quality education, advanced research, and a modern outlook, it is indeed possible to build a world-class university. Yet, this is not the end of the journey. We must move further ahead, and launching MPhil and PhD programs is now a demand of the time. Such initiatives will elevate NSU in higher education and research."
Aziz Al Kaiser remarked, "NSU is committed to providing world-class education, preparing students to apply their knowledge to real-life challenges. A person may be good, but not necessarily a valuable human resource. At NSU, we strive to ensure our students become both. This is why the university continues to uphold its reputation as one of the country's leading private institutions."
Board of Trustees member Benajir Ahmed said, "A person is shaped by their environment. Since its inception, NSU has been committed to providing students with a creative and constructive environment. To expand this vision further, we have developed a new campus in Purbachal, including residential facilities for students."
Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury told freshers, "I congratulate all the new students who have been admitted to one of the top universities in the country. You have proven your potential by completing one of the most rigorous admission tests in Bangladesh. Only the most deserving candidates earn this opportunity. At NSU, we pride ourselves on having some of the best faculty members in the nation. We do not follow conventional methods of education. Instead, we follow a globally recognised curriculum and modern teaching practices, ensuring our students develop into valuable human resources for the country. They are the ones who will shape the nation and emerge as the future academics and leaders of this country."
NSU Treasurer and Pro Vice-Chancellor (IC), Professor Abdur Rob Khan, gave the vote of thanks, saying, "NSU is committed to nurturing critical thinking, ethical leadership, and innovation. We want you to succeed in your careers and contribute meaningfully to society and the nation. Your success will be measured by what you achieve in your academic life and how much positive change you will bring to society."
The event concluded with a cultural performance by members of the North South University Shangskritik Shangathan (NSUSS).
