Over 600 students compete in Banglar Math Team Championship at SEU
With the slogan "Math is Fun", the Banglar Math Team Championship (BMTC) 2025 took place at Southeast University (SEU), drawing over 600 students from across Bangladesh.
The national competition featured participants in Junior, Intermediate, and Advanced categories, with a total of 150 winners announced. In the Team Round, 7 Junior teams, 11 Intermediate teams, and 4 Advanced teams earned championship titles. Additionally, 135 students received Merit Awards based on their individual performances.
A highlight of this year's event was the introduction of the "Jamal Nazrul Islam Memorial Award for Best Team of BMTC 2025", established in honour of the late Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam. The Junior-level team "Sigma Cube" achieved the highest overall score and won the inaugural award.
During the closing ceremony, a short documentary celebrating Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam's remarkable academic life was screened.
The ceremony was graced by eminent educationist and mathematician Professor Mohammad Kaikobad, who underscored the importance of mathematics education and urged students to pursue excellence.
Special guest Dr. Kh. M. Kabirul Islam, former Senior Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Board, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting national competitions that promote intellectual development.
Among the other distinguished guests were Dr. Muhammad Mahbubur Razzak, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, BUET; Dr. G. R. Ahmed Jamal, Professor, Department of EEE, University of Asia Pacific; and Dr. Saifur Rahman Bakaul, Chairman, Department of Aerospace Engineering, Aviation and Aerospace University, Bangladesh.
From among the winners of BMTC 2025, the Bangladesh national team for the upcoming World Mathematics Team Championship (WMTC) 2025 in Thailand will be selected through a team selection test later this year.
