Syed Manzur Elahi re-elected as chairperson of East West University Board of Trustees

Syed Manzur Elahi, a distinguished industrialist and founder of Apex Group, has been re-elected as the chairperson of the Board of Trustees of East West University (EWU) for another two-year term.
The decision was made at a recent Board of Trustees meeting, presided over by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, the founding Board President.
Syed Manzur Elahi, widely regarded as a pioneer of Bangladesh's footwear industry, also serves as Chairman of Mutual Trust Bank. He previously held advisory roles in the caretaker governments of 1996 and 2001, earning recognition for his professionalism, impartiality, and leadership. He played a key role in founding East West University, serving as its first treasurer, and has been instrumental in the institution's pursuit of academic excellence.
Holding a postgraduate degree in economics from Dhaka University, Elahi has held prominent positions, including chairman of the Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB), president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), and president of the Dhaka University Alumni Association. He has also served as a director of Bangladesh Bank, Sonali Bank, and Bangladesh Krishi Bank.
Elahi's contributions to industry and commerce have been widely recognized. He received the "Business Executive of the Year 2000" award from the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), Bangladesh, and the "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the 21st DHL-Daily Star Bangladesh Business Awards in 2023.
Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Advisor of EWU, described Elahi's re-election as a milestone that will propel the university toward new achievements in higher education.
