UIU organises conclave on 'Future of AI and Cyber-Security'

The conclave was attended by more than 250 professionals, policymakers, and researchers

United International University (UIU) hosted a conclave on Saturday to address the future of Artificial Intelligence and cyber-security in Bangladesh.

The event, titled "Future of AI & Cyber-Security: Govt-Academia-Industry Conclave 2025," was held at the UIU campus in Dhaka.

More than 250 experts, policymakers, and industry leaders gathered for discussions on the nation's technological landscape.

The event began with two keynote presentations on AI and cyber-security, delivered by Prof. Khondaker A. Mamun and Prof. Dr. Shohrab Hossain of UIU, respectively.

A high-level panel discussion followed, exploring the opportunities and challenges of integrating these technologies. The panel featured Dr. Imadur Rahman, CEO of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited; Nurul Hai, Managing Director of Startup Bangladesh; Shariful Alam, CEO of Felicity IDC Limited; Dr. Anika Ali, Director of Techno Green Carbon Limited; and SAR Md. Muinul Islam, CTO & Director at LankaBangla Securities Plc, alongside other academics.

Several distinguished figures attended as guests of honour. They included Mohammad Wahid Hossain ndc, Chairman of the Bangladesh Energy & Power Research Council; Md. Sibgat Ullah, Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police; Mashrur Arefin, CEO of The City Bank and Chairman of the Association of Bankers Bangladesh (ABB); and Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, Professor Emeritus at UIU and Chairman of Power Grid Bangladesh.

The conclave was chaired by UIU's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia. Other senior academics, including Prof. Hasan Sarwar, Dean of the School of Science & Engineering, and Dr. Suman Ahmmad, Head of CSE, also participated.

The event, which included demonstrations of AI solutions and saw participation from university alumni and students, aimed to create a platform for dialogue across key sectors. Organisers said the meeting emphasised the strategic importance of AI adoption and cyber-security preparedness for the nation's digital transformation.
