10 DU students get ‘Professor Sitara Parvin Award’ for outstanding results
A total of 10 students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University (DU) were today awarded with the 'Professor Sitara Parvin Award' for their outstanding results in BSS (Hons.) final examination held in 2021.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman distributed the awards among the recipients as chief guest at the function held at the university's Prof Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium, reports our DU correspondent.
Presided over by Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Prof Abul Mansur Ahmed, the function was addressed by Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Zia Rahman, Former president of Dhaka Reporters Unity M Shafiqul Karim, late Prof Sitara Parvin's classmate Nasima Haider, and associate professor of the department Md Saiful Alam Chowdhury.
Prof Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali gave note of thanks while Associate Professor Shaonti Haider conducted the programme.
DU VC paid glowing tribute to the memory of Prof Dr Sitara Parvin saying, she was an honest, sincere and devoted teacher and researcher of the university. Such scholarship will inspire the students to study and be knowledgeable, and develop moral and humanitarian values. He called upon the students to play pivotal roles in building a non-communal and inclusive society following the ideals and values of late the late professor.
The recipients of the award are: Md Nasimul Huda, SM Shams Rahman, Sumaia Sanjana Nimmi, Nawshin Bithy, Aurthy Noboneeta, Maria Anis Chowdhury, Md Mahfuzul Islam, Neeti Chakma, Sujan Sen Gupta, and Syed Mohammad Rahatul Islam.
Prof Sitara Parvin, daughter of former President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed and wife of retired Prof Dr Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali of DU MCJ Department died in a tragic road accident on June 23, 2005 in USA.
