DU to reinstate vehicle restrictions on campus from tomorrow
Dhaka University (DU) authorities will reinstate restrictions on vehicular movement across its campus from tomorrow.
The university proctor's office issued a notification in this regard today: "In the interest of students' overall safety, the regulation of vehicular movement inside the Dhaka University campus will resume from tomorrow [October 19]."
According to the notice, vehicles without valid Dhaka University stickers will not be allowed to enter the campus during designated hours -- from 6:00pm to 10:00pm on working days, and from 3:00pm to 10:00pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and public holidays.
Entry points of Dhaka University -- Shahbagh, Doel Chattar, Burn Unit (National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery), Shibbari Crossing, Fuller Road, Palashi intersection, and Nilkhet -- will remain restricted during those hours.
However, vehicles providing emergency services, including ambulances, doctors, patients, journalists, ride-sharing, food delivery, online shopping, and government vehicles, will be allowed entry.
Public transport and heavy vehicles will remain restricted at all times, the notice added.
On December 14 last year, Proctor Prof Saifuddin Ahmed had announced a similar measure, but the initiative was later relaxed following objections from student groups and teachers, who cited public inconvenience and concerns over the university's image.
