Rucsu polls: 168 nomination forms collected in three days
A total of 168 students have collected nomination forms for the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (Rucsu) elections in the last three days.
According to officials, 168 candidates collected forms for 23 central positions. Of them, seven students collected forms for the vice-president post, five for general secretary, and seven for assistant general secretary.
Besides, 19 students submitted nominations for five senate representative posts, and nearly 363 forms were taken for various hall union positions, they said.
Meanwhile, the deadline for collecting nomination forms for Rucsu election has been extended to August 31.
However, the election commission's decision to extend the nomination deadline triggered immediate protests on campus today.
Students protesting the move alleged that the extension had cast uncertainty over the polls.
University Chief Election Commissioner Prof F Nazrul Islam, however, said the extension came in response to several demands, including the call for replacing the CEC for the polls and the time needed for dope tests.
"The date for voting will be announced after our meeting," he added.
