Three students of Chittagong University (CU), who were among those hit by branches while travelling on the roof of the university's shuttle train yesterday, were shifted to the intensive care unit of Chattogram Medical College Hospital today.

The development came as their condition deteriorated, according to CMCH sources.

Of them, Amzad Hossen Sohag, 18, and Khalilur Rahman, 22, are students of the Bangla department and Angsuinu Marma, 21, is of the public administration department. The three were admitted to neurosurgery department last night.

Five more students with head injuries are also undergoing treatment at the hospital's neurosurgery department, our Chattogram correspondent reports quoting Sub-Inspector (SI) Nur Islam Ashek, in-charge of the CMCH Police Outpost.

They are Md Taizul Islam, 21, and Abu Sayeed, 24, students of Bangladesh studies; Mohammad San, 21, of English department; Rafsan, 23, of anthropology department; and Md Aslam, 22.

SI Nur said several students are also receiving treatment at the hospital's casualty department.

CU Assistant Proctor Nazemul Alam Murad, who was at the CMCH last night, said they were moving the injured students to a private hospital from the CMCH for better treatment.

The university's students last night vandalised furniture and a number of vehicles after 10 students were hit by tree branches and injured while travelling on the roof of the shuttle train.

According to the students, they have long been demanding higher number of carriages and trips of the shuttle train, but the university administration did not pay heed to their demand.
