BYLC and National University launch training programme under NUERI Initiative
The Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC), in partnership with the National University (NU), has successfully launched the first phase of the National University Employment Reform Initiative (NUERI). This collaboration aims to integrate career services into Bangladesh's public tertiary education system. The first training session took place on September 2 at Lalmatia Government Mohila College.
Led by BYLC's Office of Professional Development (OPD), NUERI will establish on-campus career centres to provide career guidance and readiness support to NU students. These centres will offer career counselling, help with resume and professional profile building, interview preparation, and opportunities for students to connect with HR professionals and employers. The initiative will also include online, self-paced learning modules to ensure accessibility for a wide range of students.
The inaugural training featured workshops on corporate etiquette, resume writing, and interview preparation. Participants' scores on a post-programme assessment rose to 79.41 percent from a pre-programme score of 42.76 percent, demonstrating significant learning gains.
Over the next year, the initiative will equip students with 21st-century employability skills, train faculty members to sustain career services, establish dedicated career centres at multiple NU campuses, and strengthen collaboration between academic institutions and the private sector.
Currently, the career centre is operating at Lalmatia Government Mohila College. The plan is to expand this model to 200 NU-affiliated colleges across the country, potentially reaching up to three million students. BYLC envisions that these centres will be institutionalised within the NU system for long-term impact.
