Balloons certainly make a child smile and excited. But the ones you buy for your children at shopping malls or fairs often have dreary stories. They are made in small factories in Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital by poorly paid child workers in less than perfect conditions. Amid fumes of chemicals, dye and particles in the air, they toil away. They are provided with no protective gear and most of the workers do not even know that they need the gear or else they could be facing serious health issues in the days to come.
