With Eid-ul-Fitr approaching, the weekly Jamdani haat at the BISCIC Jamdani Palli in Narayanganj’s Rupganj is reaching its peak. Buyers from all over the country throng the area looking for the finest of this traditional fabric, used to make an array of garments -- the most popular being Jamdani saris. The weekly market operates within a short window of three hours, from 3:00am to 6:00am. All the people involved in the trade, production and sales of Jamdani attend the bazaar. While Jamdani’s history is intertwined with that of the country, its speciality lies in its manufacturing, as the fabric has intricate designs that can take weavers days or even months to perfect.
