80 gold bars recovered from Biman flight, 2 held

Customs officials recover 80 gold bars from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight and detain two Biman employees.

Customs officials today recovered 80 gold bars from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight and detained two Biman employees in this connection.

On information, a team of Dhaka Customs House recovered the gold bars weighing 9.280 kilogrammes from a tray of the catering service of a Biman flight that landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5:30pm, said Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Customs House. 

The Boeing 777 flight came from Jeddah and had a brief stopover at Sylhet, the customs official also said.

Two pantrymen of Biman’s catering service -- Md Shahinur Alam, 27, and Khandaker Ruhul Amin, 33 -- were detained in this connection, he said.

The recovered gold is worth around Tk 4.65 crore, the deputy commissioner also said.
