Kazi Abdus Shahid Lal, a Language Movement veteran and lawyer in Jashore, died at a local hospital yesterday, aged 82.

Kazi Abdus Shahid Lal, a Language Movement veteran and lawyer in Jashore, died at a local hospital yesterday, aged 82.

Abdus Shahid was also a social worker and rights activist. He left behind his wife, a son, three daughters and a brother to mourn his death.

He was an organiser of the 1952 Language Movement, 1969 Mass Uprising and the 1971's struggle for freedom.

He was arrested and punished by the Pakistani government during the education movement 1962.

He will be buried at Jashore Karbala Graveyard following a namaz-e-janaza at the Central Eidgah after the Asr prayers today, said his brother Kazi Helal.
