Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is deployed in Dhaka for 12 hours to maintain security in the capital.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was deployed in Dhaka this evening to maintain security in the capital.

Contacted, BGB Director General Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed told The Daily Star over phone, "Twenty platoons have been deployed in Dhaka in aid of the civil administration. They will remain deployed till 6:00am tomorrow."

The decision came hours into the Supreme Court verdict that upheld death sentences of war criminals Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, a top BNP leader.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami has called a countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal (shutdown) from 6:00am tomorrow protesting SC's decision.
