Dhaka’s train link with rest of the country is halted for one hour in demonstration of students agitating over yesterday’s death of two of their friends.

Dhaka’s train link with rest of the country was halted for one hour in demonstration of students agitating over yesterday’s death of two of their friends.

Dhaka Cantonment railway Station, on the exit and entry route of Dhaka, was besieged by thousands of aggrieved students from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.

Yasin Faruk, officer in-charge of Dhaka Railway Police Station, confirmed The Daily Star about the halt to train operations and said it caused a schedule disarray.

However, the train link resumed from 3:30pm after the mob cleared.

Yesterday, two students of the Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College were run over by an unruly bus on Airport Road – in yet another glaring example of Dhaka’s unruly transport sector.

Aggrieved school students went on rampage yesterday, vandalising whatever buses they found before them. The agitation carried on to today on Airport Road.
