Film producer, director and actor Rana Hamid passed away at a hospital in the capital on Saturday night.

Film producer, director and actor Rana Hamid passed away at a hospital in the capital on Saturday night.

He had been suffering from stomach cancer and kidney-related problems for some time.

He died at a private hospital at Shyamoli around 11:30pm, said a Press Information Department handout.

Rana was a former director of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) and a member of Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association.

Also a member of Bangladesh Film Censor Board, he made several films, including "Masud Rana Ekhon Dhakay" and "Dhakar Rani".

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud  and State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid expressed deep sorrow at the death of Hamid.
