Finish trials of criminal cases pending for 10yrs: HC

The High Court today directed the district and sessions judges to finish in the next six months the trial proceeding of the criminal cases pending before their courts for the last ten years.
The court also directed the judges to submit the list of those cases to the lower court management committee of the Supreme Court.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman also directed the Supreme Court registrar general to communicate its directive to all the district and session judges across the country.
The HC bench passed the order while hearing a bail petition filed by one Shariful (full name could not be known immediately) seeking bail in a robbery case.
Examining the bail petition, the judges found that the case was filed with Raipura Police Station in Narsingdi on February 27, 2007 on charge of committing robbery in a passenger bus in the district but the trial proceedings of the case have not been finished yet.
The High Court today granted bail to Shariful in the case, Assistant Attorney General Yusuf Mahbub Morshed told The Daily Star.
