Five passengers of a microbus were killed and seven others injured in Narsingdi on Saturday midnight, as the vehicle collided head-on with a truck.

The accident took place at Bhatpara Sakura intersection on Panchdona-Ghorashal-Tongi road, said Sub-Inspector Zahidul Islam of Madhabdi Police Station.

The deceased were identified as Rubi Akter (33), his daughter Raima Khan (5), and his nephew Sadek Khan (8), their relatives Rokeya Begum (52), and Mukti Akhter (30), reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.

The injured have been identified as Shamsunnahar Begum (60), Kazim Uddin (42), Abdur Rashid (40), Razia Akter (40), Sharmin Akhter (38), Saifa (12), and Israt Jahan (6).

SI Zahidul said the victims were first taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, from where four injured were sent to Dhaka. Rubi Akter and Rokeya Begum died on the way.

Citing relatives, Zahidul said on Saturday morning, the microbus passengers went from Ashulia to Sylhet. On their way back after visiting a shrine, the microbus collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction at Sakura intersection in Panchdona.

The truck was seized and brought to the police station after the accident. However, its driver and his helper fled the scene.

Asad, on-duty doctor at the emergency department of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, said four women who were sent to Dhaka all received serious head injuries.

Meanwhile in Panchagarh, two passengers of a diesel-run three-wheeler were killed in a road accident as the vehicle hit a stationary tractor on Panchagarh-Banglabandha highway at Ranchandi Bazar of Tentulia on Saturday night.

The victims were Shahin Hossain (30) and Zakir Hossain (30), stone lifting workers, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.

Sub-Inspector Ashraful Alam of Tentulia Highway Police Station said the three-wheeler was coming towards Tentulia from Banglabandha with four passengers. When it reached the bazar around 9:30pm the vehicle hit the tractor.

Local rescued the injured and brought them to Tentulia Upazila Health Complex. Shahin Hossain and Makbul died on way to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital the same night.

Police seized the three-wheeler and was trying to identify its driver.

A case was field with Tentulia Police Station in this connection, SI Ashraful said.
