The mayor candidates of two major political parties Awami League and BNP will fight the battle in the December 30 election to Chittagong's Banskhali municipality, with voters saying each has an almost equal chance of winning.
In their campaign, the contestants were making all-out efforts to win over the majority of 23,793 voters by making pledges of addressing major problems -- roads, waterlogging, garbage management, street lighting, and employment.
Kamrul Islam Hossaini, a former municipality mayor and BNP's Chittagong district (south) joint secretary, carries the symbol of "Paddy sheaf" and AL's municipality unit convener Salimul Hoque Chowdhury "Boat".
There are no other mayoral aspirants, and campaigning ends tonight.
