Anjali Devi, a senior teacher of Chittagong Nursing College (CNC), was hacked to death in Chittagong city, exactly one year from today but police could not make any significant headway in the killing till now.

Anjali's husband Dr Rajendra recently told The Daily Star that he received a threat from an unknown caller on last January 31 for not proceeding with the case. He lodged a general diary but police could not find any clue in this regard as well.

Rajendra mentioned that he was living in insecurity and demanded immediate arrest of the criminals.

On last January 10, four masked assailants hacked Anjali Devi, 57, indiscriminately on Telipatti Road near her house around 8:45am but did not take away any valuables like er mobile phone or handbag.

Keshab Chowdhury, an inspector of the Detective Branch of police and the investigation officer of the case, said, "We arrested Md Reja, 50, a madrasa staff in Patiya upazila, on June 13, who went into hiding after the murder. Reja in 2012 served a legal notice to Anjali asking her to stop speaking against Islam in her classes."

Reja was remanded for five days but denied his involvement in the murder and filed a bail petition last month. According to college students and teachers, Anjali never spoke against Islam, said Keshab.

Minara Khanam, CNC principal, yesterday said they would form a human chain on the campus today demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment for the criminals.
