A nine-member probe committee is scheduled to sit in a meeting today to decide on probing whether MT Producer, an imported scrap vessel now at a ship-breaking yard in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong, contains any contaminated residues.

Captain Enamul Haque, a member of the committee and a representative of Bangladesh Ship Breakers' Association (BSBA), confirmed it to The Daily Star yesterday.

On November 5, the Department of Environment formed the committee led by its Director (Chittagong region) Masud Karim.

Ms Janata Steel Corporation imported the vessel.
