The Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) authorities yesterday suspended a radiographer and recommended that actions should be taken against its intern after a probe committee found a female patient's sexual harassment complaint true.

Around 12noon, on July 6, a woman went to the Radiology Ward to perform a chest X-ray but the radiographer Manirul Islam was not present there. In his place, Nur Hossain, an intern and a student of Institute of Health Technology (IHT), Fauzdarhat, performed the X-ray but before that he sent the patient's sister-in-law and a female  employee of the ward out of the room which is not a common practice, said Dr Khorsheda Shirin, deputy director of CMCH and a member of the probe body.

Nur made the woman take off her top for the test which is another malpractice, she added.

The authorities sent a letter to the Directorate General of Health Services to take action against Manirul as the probe-body was not satisfied with his reasons for remaining absent on duty hours and allowing an intern to perform X-ray.

The authorities also sent a letter to IHT principal to take action against Nur.

Chittagong Civil Surgeon Sarfaraj Khan Chowdhury, also acting principal of IHT, Fauzderhat, said they will take action if Nur is also found guilty in their investigation.

Nur has been absent from CMCH since after the incident and his cell phone is also switched off, said the authorities sources.
