Sylhet cattle markets waiting for buyers
Sylhet city cattle markets are expected to gain momentum within a few days as the residents traditionally start buying and selling the sacrificial animals in full swing couple of days before Eid-ul-Azha, one of the largest religious festivals of the Muslims.
Traders are hopeful of having sales to a great extent this year. They, however, are in fear of the situation they experienced last year -- less supply but huge demand.
They also said the price is now at moderate level but might increase just before the Eid.
Meanwhile, two makeshift cattle markets at Koyedir Math in Machimpur and Kadamtali and a permanent one at Kazirbazar are allowed by Sylhet City Corporation.
Instead, many places including in Kumarpara, Shahi Eidgah playground, Akhalia BGB field, Medical Road, Rikabibazar, Tilagarh Point, and Lakkatura have already been grabbed by a syndicate to run business, alleged some traders, seeking anonymity.
It may affect the regular markets, they said.
The city corporation CEO Enamul Habib said, “We will take legal actions against such traders.”
Md Shahidul Islam Chowdhury, acting deputy commissioner of Sylhet, said they had already assigned two magistrates to look into the matter other security measures at the markets in the city and district.
