Officials at Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP) today detained a person and a suspected broker for allegedly using false information in passport application.

Kabir Hossain, 29, the applicant for machine readable passport (MRP) hailing from Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria, and Tanim, 26, the suspected broker from Dhaka’s Lalbagh, were detained at DIP’s Agargaon head office.

The duo was involved in using false information in an application for a machine readable passport, Nasrin Pervin Nupur, DIP assistant director who investigated the matter, told The Daily Star.

“When I was checking Kabir’s finger print and personal information, I came to find out that he has used fake information in the application,” she said.

After further quizzing, Kabir admitted that he had used fake information in the application as per the brokers’ advices to get the passport urgently.

They made a contract of Tk 15,000 to get the passport, he said.

According to the deal, Tanim took Kabir to another broker named Parvez at Jatrabari passport office on February 12.
