Two people are killed in separate incidents of “shootout” with law enforcers in Chittagong and Habiganj.

Two people were killed in separate incidents of “shootout” with law enforcers in Chittagong and Habiganj early today.

In Chittagong, a man identified as Bijarul Alam Chouwdhury, 34, was killed at Mirsarai upazila, our local staff correspondent reports.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) said they signaled two microbuses to stop at a check post in Durgapur on Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 3:30am when the “drug peddlers” opened gunfire.

The lawmen retaliated with gunfire and later recovered the body of Bijarul from the spot. One microbus was seized, Rab-7 squadron leader Shafayet Jamil Fahim told The Daily Star.

They seized 600 bottles of phensedyl, one foreign pistol and four rounds of bullets from the abandoned microbus.

In another ‘shootout’, a suspected robber was killed in a gunfight at Daragaon Tea Estate of Bahubal upazila in Habiganj around 3:30am.

The deceased identified as Madan Mia alias Mozammel, 40, son of Abdur Rahman of Shahpur in the upazila, was arrested on Wednesday night, UNB reports quoting Biswajit Deb, officer-in-charge of Bahubal Police Station.
