2 killed as truck hits motorcycle in Patuakhali

Two men were killed after a truck rammed into their motorcycle on the Patuakhali-Kuakata highway in Sadar upazila of Patuakhali last evening.

The deceased were identified as Jayanta Chantra (25), son of Bankim Chandra and Apurba (24), son of Nepal Bhuiyan in Chatra village in Galachipa upazila of the same district, reports our local correspondent.

Quoting locals, Mizanur Rahman, sub-inspector of Patuakhali Police Station, said a Kalapara-bound goods laden truck from Barishal hit the motorbike from the opposite direction in Pakshiya bazar area around 6pm, leaving the two dead on the spot.

The accident happened as Jayantra and Apurba were coming to Patuakhali town from Galachipa on a motorcycle, said the police

Akhtar Morshed, officer-in-charge of Patuakhali Police Station, said the bodies were being sent to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the truck was seized but the driver and helper fled the scene, the OC added.
