Every year 2.5 million people fall victims to the clutches of human trafficking. Estimated to be a $31.6 billion industry a year, the victims of human trafficking are mostly girls and women. The majority of trafficked females are exploited sexually whereas most trafficked men are pushed into forced labor.
The source countries are mainly from the regions of South and East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and South America. The trafficked victims are sent into the countries of North America, Western and Central Europe and the Middle East.
