Bus helper beaten to death in Rangpur
A bus helper was beaten to death by a passenger in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur this evening.
The deceased was identified as Ashraf Ali, 40, of Rangpur city, reports our local correspondent.
Locals and police said the incident took place around 8:00pm in front of Mithapukur Fire Service and Civil Defence Station on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway.
Md Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Mithapukur police station, said Monowar Hossain, 35, climbed on the roof of the Gaibandha-bound BRTC bus at Rangpur Medical College intersection.
The helper Ashraf went up to the roof to collect the fare from the passengers.
When the helper went to Monowar, he refused to pay and got into an altercation.
At one stage, Monowar got violent and beat up Ashraf indiscriminately with a stick and left him dead on the spot.
Hearing the sound of the altercation, the driver stopped the bus in front of the fire station and found the helper dead.
He along with others caught Monowar and later handed him to police.
Monowar was being interrogated in the police station, the OC added.
