Chittagong's rail link with rest of the country remains snapped for over five hours after a Dhaka-bound train derailed in Akhaura railway station in Brahmanbaria.

Chittagong's rail link with rest of the country remained snapped for over five hours after a Dhaka-bound train derailed in Akhaura of Brahmanbaria early today.

Three carriages of a mail train derailed in Brahmanbaria's Akhura Station Yard around 3:35am, Sayedur Rahman, assistant director of Bangladesh Railway, told The Daily Star Online.

"Chittagong's rail link with Dhaka and Chittagong remained suspended until the lines were fixed at 6:10am," he said. A Chittagong-bound train said to have been delayed.

Mozammel Haque, managing director of the railway station, said the reason behind the derailment was yet to known, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo. A committee will be formed to probe the incident.
