PM Sheikh Hasina encourages ministers of her cabinet to do their household works instead of hiring domestic helps. "You can start by setting an example. That way, money can be saved and there are no additional hassles," she tells her cabinet colleagues.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today encouraged the ministers of her cabinet to do their household work instead of resorting for domestic help.

She passed the observation at the cabinet meeting where an act was endorsed for the protection and welfare of domestic help, a minister told The Daily Star.

"In the Western countries, people do their household work by themselves. We can start the practice too. It will save the money and avoid all the hassles involved," she said.

"My grandchildren living abroad are doing the same. You all (the ministers) can start by setting an example. Do your own household work," she said.

At one point of the discussion, a minister inquired regarding payment regulations for domestic help. The premier prescribed him to take suggestions from "the wife".
