EC scraps polls at Narsingdi’s Madhabdi

The Election Commission has cancelled the municipality election of Narsingdi's Madhabdi in view of irregularities, an official of the commission said.

The authorities of the EC came up with the decision half an hour before the voting ended around 4:00pm. The elections in the municipality area will be rescheduled later.

Our local correspondent quoted Madhabdi municipality Returning Officer Rafiqul Islam to report of at least five voting centres being suspended in face of irregularities.

This was the country's first municipality polls ever to have been held under political party banners.
