Two including a union parishad member were killed and five others injured in Sharsha upazila of Jessore this morning centering a feud over cutting trees.

The dead, Abdullah, 52, was a member of Raghunathpur Union Parishad and Shamsur Rahman, 43, a resident of the same village, a local correspondent reports.

Abdullah accompanied a group and intercepted Nasiruddin, Alauddin and Fulshar Uddin when they were cutting roadside trees around 9:00am, Apurba Hasan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station, said.

Following an altercation, Nasiruddin, Alauddin and Fulshar pounced on Abdullah and his group with sharp weapon leaving Abdullah and his affiliate Shamsur critically injured, he said.

Abdullah died on the way of Sharsah Upazila Health Complex while Shamsur Rahman met the same fate while undergoing treatment at Jessore Medical College Hospital, the OC added.

The injured are undergoing treatment at different hospitals and clinics in the area. A process is underway to file a case in the connection, the OC said.
