Officers of Jahangirnagar University continued work abstention for the second day today demanding release of one of their colleague who was arrested by police.

Academic and administrative activities remain halted following the strike today, reports our Jahangirnagar University correspondent.

The group yesterday observed a strike for release of Abdur Rahman Babul, the general secretary of their association, who was picked up from the campus by detectives the day before.

Babul, arrested on Monday, was later shown arrested over violence during the BNP-led coalition's agitation programme in the first quarter of this year.

He, convener of Dhaka district Jatiyatabadi Sechhasebok Dal, an associate organisation of BNP, was missing from the Bishmail area on the campus since Monday evening.

JU Teachers Association (Juta), JU Employees Association, and JU Employees Union yesterday expressed solidarity with the officers' demand.
