Lightning kills 3 in Chapainawabganj

Three people were killed in lightning strikes at Shibganj and Nachole upazila of Chapainawabganj today.

The victims were identified as Rahima Begum (38), Jalaluddin (35), and Masrufa Khatun (8), daughter of Obaidur Rahman of Ajhoir village under Nachole upazila in the district.

Farid Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibganj police station said, Rahima was picking mangoes from a mango orchard near her house when lightning struck her around 2:00pm.

She died on the spot, said the OC.

The OC said that Jalaluddin was harvesting paddy at Borgachhi around 2:00pm and died on the spot in a lightning strike as well.

Masrufa Khatun was killed by a lightning strike when she was plucking mangoes from a mango orchard, adjacent to her house at around 1:30 pm, said Selim Reza, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nachole Police Station.
