Poacher jailed, 32 dead birds seized

Members of Forest and Nature Conservation Department in a drive detained four people, including three minor boys, and seized at least 32 dead birds from them in Habiganj's Chunarughat upazila on Monday evening.

A mobile court later sentenced the adult bird hunter, out of the four, to one month imprisonment under Wildlife Conservation Act, Chunarughat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Satyajit Ray Das said.

The convict, Siddique Ali, 31, is a resident of Chandpur area in the upazila.

However, the three minor poachers were released upon giving an undertaking that they would never involve in such illegal activities in future, he added.

UNO Satyajit said officials of Chunarughat Forest and Nature Conservation Department detained the four when Siddique Ali and the three minor boys were taking the dead birds in Chandpur Tea Garden for sale.
