Stolen baby remains untraced

A new born baby, allegedly stolen from Sirajganj 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital on Tuesday, is yet to be rescued even a day after the incident.

The missing baby boy -- Mahim, son of Chayon Islam of Vadalia village in Sirajganj's Ullapara upazila, was admitted at the hospital's children ward due to cold related disease about a week, Dr Saiful Islam of the hospital said.

Quoting the family members, Officer in Charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station Bahauddin Faruki said the incident occurred when mother of the 23-day-old boy went outside the ward putting her baby in another woman's lap on Tuesday.

When the child's mother Sharmin Khatun returned to the ward within a few minutes, she found both the woman and her baby missing from the ward, he added.

Sharmin alleged that the incident occurred due to negligence of the hospital authorities.
