A cheated jobseeker lodged a case with Aditmari Police Station on Monday night, accusing three alleged cheaters of taking money from five jobseekers but giving them fake appointment letters of Bangladesh Railways.

The accused are Shahidul Islam, Ruhul Bishwas and Hafizul Islam, all of them from Uttar Shalika Majhpara village in Meherpur Sadar upazila of Meherpur.

The cheated jobseekers are Mashiur Rahman son of Fazlul Haque, Shamser Ali son of late Abdul Hakim, Farooque Miah son of Shamsul Huda, Jewel Rana son of Abdul Quader and Faridul Islam son of late Jaynal Abedin, all of them from Mahishkhocha in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat.

Plaintiff Mashiur said the five jobseekers gave Shahidul Tk 18,24,000 --Tk 10 lakh in cash and Tk 8,24,000 to Shahidul's bank account No CA 2088 Uttara Bank, Meherpur Branch -- in January this year.

Cheated jobseeker Shamser Ali said they applied for the post of 'way-man' in Bangladesh Railway in 2011, but the recruitment was halted suddenly in 2012. “We went to Railway Bhaban in Dhaka and met Shahidul in 2015. In 2017, he assured us that we would get the job if we gave bribe,” he said.

“We believed Shahidul as he took us to the rooms of many high officials in Railway Bhaban,” said cheated jobseeker Farooque Miah. “We got appointment letters through the post office in February this year, but they were declared as fake by railway officials,” he added.

They tried to contact Shahidul several times but he did not receive the calls, he said.

Aditmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Masud Rana told this correspondent that action would be taken against the cheaters. “Taking help of Meherpur Sadar Police Station, we will arrest the cheaters,” he said.
