War criminal Mir Quasem buried in Manikganj
Jamaat-e-Islami's key financier Mir Quasem Ali, who was hanged last night for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971, was buried at Harirampur upazila of Manikganj early today.
The body of the war criminal was buried after a namaz-e-janaza at his ancestral residence in Chala village at 3:30am, our Manikganj correspondent reports quoting Abdus Salam, a sub-inspector of special branch of Manikganj police.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Mir Quasem's wife Khandakar Ayesha Khatun received the body around 2:45am when her two daughters and around 40 relatives were present, said Shajahan Sheikh, assistant police superintendent of Manikganj District Special Branch (DSB).
Family members and relatives of the hanged criminal reached the spot on four microbuses, the police official said.
Additional police had been deployed at the village and its adjacent areas. Police did not allow people including journalists to enter the area. They also established separate check posts on roads and link roads to beef up security in the area.
Earlier, five people of the village led by Somej Uddin dug the grave, the correspondent said quoting sources.
