Not a single student passed this year's Dakhil examinations from four madrasas in Sadar, Mirzaganj and Baufal upazilas.

The institutions are Kapalvera Darussunnat Mohila Alim Madrasa and Uttar Ghatker Andua Salehia Fazil Madrasa in Mirzaganj, Lohalia Kazi Mojibul Haque (KMH) Dakhil Girls' Madrasa in Sadar and Jamalkathi Nesharia Dakhil Madrasa in Baufal upazila.

On May 10, Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board (BMEB) issued show cause notices to country's 96 madrasas, including the four in Patuakhali, where not a single student passed Dakhil examinations this year, said Md Ruhul Amin, assistant district education officer.
The authorities of the madrasas were asked to submit repy within 21 working days. In the notice, BMEB asked why necessary steps, including cancellation of academic recognition, would not be taken, said Ruhul Amin.
During a visit to Lohalia KMH Dakhil Madrasa in Sadar upazila around 11:30am on Tuesday, this correspondent found the institution closed although it was a working day.
Md Joynal Abedin Hawlader, a resident near the madrasa, said the institution often remained closed.
“Most of the working days, we found it closes around 12 noon or maximum 1:00pm. We heard about bad performance of Dakhil examinees of the institution and the teachers are responsible for that,” he said.
Another villager Md Eusuf Hawlader said academic activities of the institution are not satisfactory as there are no qualified teachers.
Kazi Mojibul Haque, superintendent of the madrasa, said they closed the madrasa for Ramadan vacation from Sunday. All four examinees failed in English and mathematics.
All 13 teachers are enjoying MPO facilities since the madrasa was established in 1984, he said.

They have already sent report to the higher authority to take steps over the bad performance of the institution, he added.
