Detectives said they have arrested two members of a fraud gang from the capital's Bangshal for their involvement in making fake Covid-19 test reports.

The arrestees are Md Monir Hossain (38) and Md Rafiqul Islam alias Rubel (24).

Based on information, the Kotwali Zonal team DB police conducted a raid at the Al Medical Pharma on Nazim Uddin Road in Bangshal area yesterday evening and made the arrests, said Saifur Rahman Azad, additional deputy commissioner of Lalbagh division DB police.

Police also have recovered a monitor, a printer, a CPU, a keyboard and two fake Covid-19 test reports from their possession.

ADC Azad said "Covid-19 negative report is required for any surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). The arrestee used to change 'positive' Covid-19 report and make it negative for surgery of patients being treated in the hospital."

He said the arrestees used to do this in exchange for Tk 2,000 so that cancer patients can get their surgery. At one point the ENT department of DMCH identified the report as fake after it was presented there, said the DB official.

Following the complaint, the DB team conducted drives and arrested the two, he said.

A case was lodged with the Bangshal Police Station in this regard, Azad added.
