3 sent to jail in connection with abduction, rape of 15-year-old

A court in Patuakhali today sent three people to jail in connection with a case filed over the abduction and rape of a 15-year-old in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali.

Police arrested the three, Yusuf Sikder (21), his father Khalil Sikder and his brother Hasan Sikder, from Itbaria area this morning after the victim's father filed a case against them with Kalapara Police Station last night, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.  

The case was filed against Yusuf for raping the girl after kidnapping her while his father Khalil and brother Hasan were made accused in the case for helping him rape the girl, according to the case statement.

Today, a judge of Kalapara senior judicial magistrate court passed the order after police produced the trio before the court, said Khandaker Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kalapara Police Station.

According to the case statement, Yusuf had been proposing to marry the victim for long time.

The 15-year-old was abducted by Yusuf on her way home from a neighbour's house on April 22.

On April 24, Yusuf, with the help of his father and brother, called a local man (Moulovi) and married her without registration. Yusuf later raped her again against her will, the case statement said.

OC Khandaker Mostafizur Rahman further said police rescued the victim and arrested the accused today after the victim's father filed the case last night.
