The imam of capital's Dakshinkhan Sardar Para Mosque and his accomplice today confessed to magistrates that garment worker Azharul Islam was killed in a preplanned manner.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Dhiman Chandra Mondol and Abu Sufian Md Noman respectively recorded the confessional statements of Imam Abdur Rahman and the victim's wife Asma Akter after Investigation Officer Anuj Kumar Sardar, also a sub-inspector of Dakshinkhan Police Station, produced the duo at the magistrates' chambers on completion of a five-day remand, court sources said.

After recording their statements, the magistrates sent them to jail.

In her confessional statement, Asma said she along with Imam Abdur Rahman planned the murder as she was in a relationship with him. Her husband Azharul was a barrier to their relationship.

She was not there at the place of occurrence, but she sent her husband Azharul to Dhaka from Tangail on May 18, she told the magistrate.

The duo was placed a five-day remand in the case on May 26.
