Hefajat leader Mufti Mashud arrested in Sylhet

Police detained a local leader of Hefajat-e-Islam from Sylhet in connection with creating public nuisance by bringing out a procession on April 19 after Hefajat's Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque was arrested.
The arrestee, Mufti Mashud Ahmed is the general secretary of Zakiganj upazila unit of Hefajat-e-Islam and was Nayeb-e-Muhtamim of Shahbag Jamia Madania Quasimul Ulum Madrasa.
He was arrested from his village at Zakiganj's Barhal Kachua around 3:00am today, said Md Abul Quasem, officer-in-charge of Zakiganj Police Station.
Around 10:00pm on April 19, local Hefajat-e-Islam leaders and supporters brought out a procession at the local bazaar in protest of Mamunul Haque's arrest. Police on April 20 filed a case under the Special Powers Act accusing 19 named persons and several unnamed.
OC Abul Quasem said, "Mufti Mashud was not a named accused in the case, but we've found his involvement during the investigation."
He was sent to jail after he appeared before a Sylhet court virtually this morning, the officer-in-charge added.
