Rab arrests local BCL leader with arms in Savar

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today claimed to have arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) along with firearms in Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today claimed to have arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) along with firearms in Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka.

The arrestee is Robiul Islam (33), said Mohammad Sajedul Islam Sajal, assistant director (media) of Rab-4 in a press release.

A team of Rab-4 launched a drive in Shimulia area under Ashulia Police Station around 1:00am after receiving information that a group of terrorists is staying in the area in a bid to carry out criminal activities.

During the drive, the Rab team arrested Robiul along with a pistol, one bullet and a magazine, said the Rab official.

The arrestee was accused in several cases filed with different police stations.

In a primary interrogation, the Rab came to know that he was involved in carrying out terrorist activities by displaying firearms, added the Rab official in the press release.

"Arrested Rabiul Islam (33) is president of Shimulia Union unit of BCL. We will take organisation step against him after scrutinising the issue," said Saidur Rahman, president of Dhaka district (North) of BCL.
