Hold rallies with students to celebrate Pahela Baishakh
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has directed all secondary schools and colleges of the country to celebrate Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla calendar.
The educational institutions must organise student rallies in the morning, according to a directive of DSHE.
Prof Shahedul Kabir, director of DSHE, confirmed that they sent an order to all schools and colleges yesterday following a directive of the Ministry of Education.
As part of the celebrations, DSHE has directed that the students must sing the national anthem, as well as "Esho He Baishakh," a famous song by Rabindranath Tagore that welcomes the Bangla New Year on that day.
The DSHE has also asked the authorities concerned to "publicise" the Mangal Shobhajatra, which was declared an "intangible cultural heritage" by Unesco in 2016.
However, a supreme court lawyer recently sent a legal notice asking the government to stop holding Mangal Shobajatra, a traditional procession that is usually carried out from the Fine Arts Institute of Dhaka University on Pahela Baishakh.
