Actor Farooque laid to rest next to his father
Legendary actor, freedom fighter and Akbar Hossain Pathan (Farooque) MP was laid to rest at his family graveyard in Gazipur's Kaliganj last night after his namaz-e-janaza.
He was buried beside his father in Tumulia area around 10:00pm, actor Zayed Khan told The Daily Star.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Earlier, his fifth namaz-e-janaza was held at the Eidgah ground adjacent to Tumulia Central Jame Mosque. He was given a state guard of honour there.
Farooque passed away around 8:30am on Monday at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.
His body arrived in Bangladesh at 7:50am yesterday, beginning a profoundly poignant and sombre journey. His body was first taken to his residence in Uttara, where family, friends, and well-wishers paid their final respects.
At 11:00 am, a solemn procession made its way to the Central Shaheed Minar. Subsequently, the procession proceeded to Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), a place close to Farooque's heart, for the first namaz-e-janaza after Zuhr prayers.
Farooque made his claim to fame on the big screen through "Jolchhobi", directed by H Akbar. His acting prowess would eventually earn him the National Film Award for 'Best Supporting Actor' in 1975. Later, in 2016, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Some of Farooque's most notable and memorable films include "Sareng Bou", "Lathial", "Sujon Sokhi", "Noyonmoni", "Golapi Ekhon Train a", and many more.
The actor's hometown is in Kaliganj upazila, Gazipur, but he was born and raised in Dhaka.
