Ganga Jamuna Cultural Festival to begin from October 1

Commemorating the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of the Independence of Bangladesh, the Ganga Jamuna Cultural Festival is set to commence from October 1.

Commemorating the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of the Independence of Bangladesh, the Ganga Jamuna Cultural Festival is set to commence from October 1.

The 9th installment of the 12-day long festival has been dedicated to the Father of the Nation. To announce the details of the festival, a press conference was held today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).

The programme was presided by the convener of the council, author Golam Kuddus, while the convener of the subcommittee, playwright Mir Zahid Hasan gave the inaugurating speech.

Festival secretary Aktaruzzaman, along with Ahmed Giyas, Khorshedul Alam, and Manzarul Islam Sweet, among others, also spoke at the event.

Over 3500 performers from 140 prominent and promising cultural groups will perform at the event. The cultural fest will showcase stage plays, street plays, mime, poetry recitals, and dance routines, among many other cultural acts. Alongside the theatrical halls, performances at open stages are also being arranged.

The grand opening of the festival is said to be inaugurated by legendary music composer and Freedom Fighter Shujeyo Sham.

State Minister of Cultural Affairs, K M Khalid MP will attend the programme as chief guest. Thespian Ramendu Majumdar, eminent actor and former Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, Manchasarathi Ataur Rahman, cultural personality and eminent artiste Mamunur Rashid, theatre persona Nasir Uddin Yousuff, and BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky will also be in attendance, among many others.

The opening speech will be delivered by the festival secretary Aktaruzzaman, and the programme will be presided by the convener of the council, Golam Kuddus.
