Masum Reza returns to theatre
Masum Reza is one of the most popular playwrights of today. He is also a prolific screenwriter, with hit television serials like "Ronger Manush" and "Vober Hat" to his credit. After some time away from the limelight, he is set to write and direct the stage play, "Janaker Anantajatra", in association with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The cast and crew of the production have been rehearsing for the last few months virtually.
"We will start physical rehearsals from next month at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. We hope to start shows of the play from the middle of December," asserts Masum Reza.
He further shared that incidents after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's assassination, when his body was taken to Tungipara, will be central to the play's narrative. Actors from various popular theatre troupes of Dhaka have been cast in "Janaker Anantajatra".
Masum Reza directed the plays "Nityapuran", "Surgaon" and "Jalbashor" under the banner of his own theatre troupe, Desh Natok.
Aupee Karim and Afzal Hossain worked together on a play directed by him, which was prominently staged in Canada.
Masum Reza also wrote the screenplay for the popular movies, "Molla Barir Bou" and "Meghla Akash".
He received the National Film Award for his screenplay of "Baapjaner Bioscope". In 2016, he won the Bangla Academy Award as a playwright.
